More About These Small Handmade Bowls
These small handmade ceramic bowls are wheel-thrown in my Sussex studio using durable stoneware clay, then finished by hand in my signature Sea Smoothed Pebble glazes. Each bowl has a smooth, rounded form that feels lovely to hold, with small natural variations from the throwing, glazing and firing process.
They are the sort of bowls that end up being used far more than expected. We reach for this size constantly at home — for olives, nuts, crisps, hummus, guacamole, sauces, berries, yoghurt, ice cream and little desserts after dinner. They also work beautifully as dip bowls, snack bowls, nibbles bowls, tapas bowls or small serving bowls when you want to make even simple food feel a bit more considered.
The collection includes both single-colour bowls and double-dipped colourways, from fresh Coastal Blue and calm Pale Green to warm Coral, rich Crimson and simple White. Some have a clean single glaze, while others pair two colours together for a more layered, informal table feel.
The base of each bowl is left as bare clay and burnished smooth by hand. It is a small extra step, but it gives the bowl a grounded handmade feel and helps it sit gently on tables, shelves and worktops.
I think this is where handmade pottery really comes into its own: useful, personal pieces with quiet character that become part of everyday life. These little stoneware bowls are made for snacks, relaxed entertaining, garden lunches, barbecues, sharing food with friends and those small golden moments when a bowl of something simple feels just right.
If you’re comparing bowl sizes, my medium bowls are better for cereal, soup and everyday meals, while the flatter tapas bowls are designed for mezze, dips and sharing food. You can also browse all handmade bowls or the wider handmade tableware collection.
