More About These Handmade Ceramic Medium Bowls
These handmade medium ceramic bowls are wheel-thrown in my Sussex studio using durable stoneware clay, then finished by hand in my signature Sea Smoothed Pebble glazes. Designed as genuinely useful everyday bowls, they are sized for the meals we actually eat most often at home — cereal in the morning, soup at lunch, noodles, pasta, porridge, rice bowls and simple comforting food at the end of the day.
The rounded form feels lovely in the hand, while the medium depth makes the bowls generous enough for proper meals without feeling oversized or heavy. We use bowls this size constantly because they are so versatile — just as good for yoghurt and berries as they are for ramen-style noodles or a warming bowl of soup on colder evenings.
The collection includes both single-colour bowls and double-dipped colourways, from fresh Coastal Blue and calm Pale Green to warm Coral, rich Crimson and simple White. Some feel bright and fresh on the table, while others bring a softer, more earthy warmth to everyday meals.
Every bowl has a smooth burnished base left as bare clay. It is an extra step in the making process, but it gives the bowls a grounded handmade feel and helps them sit gently on tables, worktops and shelves.
I think medium bowls are where handmade pottery really shines — useful enough to become part of daily life, and personal enough to make ordinary meals feel a little more special. These are bowls for slow breakfasts, quick lunches, cosy evenings, relaxed weekend food and the quiet rituals that happen around the table every day.
If you’re comparing bowl sizes, my small bowls are better for snacks, dips and little desserts, while the flat base tapas bowls are designed for mezze, antipasti and sharing food. You can also browse all handmade bowls or the wider handmade tableware collection.
